1917 = mathematical formula – Johann Radon developed the basic mathematical equation Radon transform.
1920s = methods to image the specific section of body known as “Body Section Radiography” and ‘‘stratigraphy’’ (from stratum, meaning ‘layer’)
1935 = Grossman refined the technique and labeled it as Tomography.
1936 = Watson developed another Tomography technique, known as “Transverse Axial Tomography”
1937= Stefan Kaczmarz formulated another mathematical theory “Algebraic Reconstruction Technique”
1940 = Frank & Takashi published the “basic principle” of CT.
1956 = Allan MacLeod Cormack developed the theory of “Image Reconstruction”.
1967 = Godfrey Newbold Hounsefield constructed the clinical useful experimental apparatus (radiation used –gamma source coupled with a crystal detector)
1971= First clinical prototype CT “brain” scanner (EMI Mark 1) was installed at AtkinsonMorley’s Hospital.
1972 = First clinical Brain Scanner used.
1975 = “Dynamic special reconstructor” (DSR) was installed at Myoclinic.
1980 = A high speed CT Scanner was introduced that used electron beam technique to image CVS (to overcome motion artifact) known as “EBCT”

1989 = “Single-slice” “spiral/helical” CT Scanner was introduced.
1992 = “Dual-slice” “spiral/helical” CT Scanner was introduced.
1998 = “Multi-slice” “spiral/helical” CT Scanner (MSCT) was introduced.
2000 = 16 & 32 slice CT Scanner was introduced.
2004 = Introduction of 64 slice CT Scanner.
2006 = Introduction of “Dual source” (DSCT) CT Scanner (two x-ray tubes coupled to two detector array)
2006-2007 = Introduction of 256 slice and 320 slice CT Scanner.
