POUCHOGRAM

INTRODUCTION

It is a radiographic technique which is done to assess for leakage or other complications such as strictures at the ileo-anal anastomosis or some-times to assess the capacity of pouch.

INDICATION

Ulcerative colitis.

Colonic polyposis.

Colonic cancers.

CONTRAINDICATION

Iodine sensitivity.

PATIENT PREPARATION

Take Liquid diet only a day prior examination.

Nil orally by mouth after examination.

TECHNIQUE

•The patient is laid down on x ray table.

•12F catheter is introduces into rectum or pouch.

•Contrast media (HYPAQUE 30%) IS Introduced.

•As the contrast fills the patients colon, the patient might have sensation of bowel movement, Then after patient is asked to remain in different positions for radiographs.

•Views taken are Scout,Lateral,AP,RAO,LAO.
